Day 13 – Psalm 43

“For You are the God of my strength…” Psalm 43:2a

FIGHTING OLD DOUBTS

Doubts are very difficult to destroy. They never really go away. They may lie dormant for a while, but before too long the doubts attempt to assert themselves again. Once again doubts must be resisted vigorously.

“For You are the God of my strength;
Why do You cast me off?
Why do I go mourning because of the
oppression of my enemy?”
Psalm 43:2

1. Re-emergence of stubborn negative feelings

a) Feelings of being “cast off”
i) This was a terrible feeling of being forsaken.
ii) It is usually accompanied by a feeling of being isolated.
b) Feelings of sadness
i) Tears may not be mentioned, but they are not far off.
ii) A sense of mournfulness is felt keenly.
c) The oppression of my enemy
i) These negative feelings were triggered by “oppression” from the enemy.
ii) Literal physical enemies were in mind.

2. Battling negative feelings effectively

a) How wonderful it is to be able to call on God in faith.
b) Hope in God as our tower of strength will go a long way in our battle against stubborn negative feelings.
