“By this I know that You are well pleased with me…” Psalm 41:11

SIGNIFICANCE OF ANSWERS TO PRAYER

David gives us an important understanding as to how we may interpret the answers of the Lord to our prayers. There is special significance when God answers prayer.

“By this I know that You are well pleased with me,
Because my enemy does not triumph over me.”
Psalm 41:11

1. “By this I know that You are well pleased with me”

a) Mercy is very precious.
i) Through God’s mercy forgiveness is obtained
ii) Through Divine mercy deliverance from enemies is experienced
b) You are well pleased
i) This is a different significance.
ii) It may be distinguished from God’s mercy.
iii) God is pleased with David’s faith.
iv) He is pleased with David for seeking Him diligently.
v) He will reward David as an indication that He is well pleased!

2. “Because my enemy does not triumph over me”

a) To have the enemy triumph over David would be disastrous
i) For David personally.
ii) For the nation David ruled.
b) If the enemy had been triumphant
i) It would mean that God was chastising David.
ii) It would also mean that David had not obtained God’s mercy let alone His good pleasure.
