Psalm 41:10 "Raise me up..."

Day 362 – Psalm 41

“Raise me up…” Psalm 41:10

OVERCOMING EMOTIONS

David was laid low because of illness. But he had to overcome something far greater! He had to overcome his badly battered emotions of being so badly betrayed by his trusted friend(s).

A PRAYER THAT SPEAKS OF HOPE

The first prayer was for mercy from the Lord for forgiveness of sins (Psalm 41:4). The second prayer was also for mercy to be extended but its application was vastly different!

“But You, O LORD, be merciful to me, and raise me up,
That I may repay them.”
Psalm 41:10

1. “O LORD”

a) David continued to express deep humility as he offered this second prayer.
b) He submitted himself to the will of the LORD.

2. “Be merciful to me, and raise me up”

a) David had pleaded for mercy that his sins might be forgiven.
b) Now he prays for mercy for a different reason.
i) He would need the mercy of the Lord to be fully restored in health.
ii) God was the ultimate Physician.
iii) It would take nothing less than Divine mercy to be fully restored in health.

3. “That I may repay them”

a) This was not personal vendetta.
b) David knew what could happen if he had despaired and given up hope to regain full health.
c) His enemies would triumph and bring great suffering to many.
d) David pleaded for mercy to live so that he might battle his enemies and defeat them. He must uphold justice and resist these wicked enemies!
