Day 249 – Psalm 32

“I acknowledged my sin to You…” Psalm 32:5a

WHAT DOES GOD WANT FROM US?

Does God expect a perfect life from us? That would be impossible! But God does not expect a life of sinless perfection from us! He knows us all too well! The following text describes contemplatively what God desires of us.

“I acknowledge my sin to You,
And my iniquity I have not hidden.
I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,’
And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.”
Psalm 32:5

1. “I acknowledge”

a) My sin
b) My iniquity

c) My transgressions

2. Three key words (Old Testament vocabulary on the subject of “sin”)

a) Sin
i) Failure to live up to God’s standard.
ii) This is surely not hard to admit.
b) Iniquity
i) The element of “perversity” is found in this word.
ii) Every iniquity highlights the human tendency towards perversity.
c) Transgressions
i) This involves the breaking of God’s laws.
ii) There is an element of “rebellion” in this word.

3. “And You forgave the iniquity of my sin”

a) God desires to forgive.
b) His forgiveness covers every aspect of our sinfulness.
