Psalm 31:21 "Blessed be the LORD..."
Day 245 – Psalm 31
“Blessed be the LORD…” Psalm 31:21
CONCLUSION OF PRAYER
God had heard and answered the prayer of David! The conclusion of his prayer is most heartening to read.
“Blessed be the LORD, for He has shown me His
marvelous kindness in a strong city!
For I said in my haste, ‘I am cut off from before Your eyes’;
Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications
When I cried out to You.”
Psalm 31:21-22
1. “Blessed be the LORD”
a) To bless the Lord is only right and fitting.
b) This cry of praise must come from the depths of the heart.
2. Reasons to thank God profusely
a) God had indeed shown “marvelous kindness”.
b) An interesting expression was used here – “Marvelous kindness in a strong city!”
i) A conflation of two strains of thought “marvelous kindness” and “a strong city”.
ii) Similar idea to “strong mountain” (Psalm 30:7).
iii) David was now in a position of “a strong city” by virtue of the Lord’s marvelous kindness.
c) God had indeed heard the voice of David’s supplications.
3. A moment of weakness and unbelief
a) David admitted that there were moments of weakness and unbelief.
b) He had said too hastily these words – “I am cut off from before Your eyes.”
Despite this moment of weakness God’s marvelous kindness had shone through. He was now delivered from the wicked plots of his enemies!
