Day 240

Psalm 31:112a "I am forgotten like a dead man..."

Day 240 – Psalm 31

“I am forgotten like a dead man…” Psalm 31:112a

When one is emotionally vulnerable, great dangers abound everywhere. The mind can be unduly and adversely affected. The following text shows us just how vulnerable David was as he struggled against powerful odds.

“I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind;
I am like a broken vessel.
For I hear the slander of many; Fear is on every side;
While they take counsel together against me.
They scheme to take away my life.”
Psalm 31:12-13

1. With reference to self

a) Sadness of being forgotten like a dead man.
b) Wretched grief of a person who feels he is like a broken vessel.
c) Self-worth was at a very low point here.

2. With reference to enemies

a) Slander
i) Real
ii) Imagined
b) Fear is felt keenly
c) Counsel of the enemies
i) They continued to persist in battling David.
ii) The threat they posed to David remained very real.
iii) Sources of intelligence indicated that there were schemes afoot to kill David.

These were very real worries! The wisest course of action was to turn everything over to the Lord in humble trust!
