Day 234 – Psalm 31

“Into Your hand I commit my spirit…” Psalm 31:5

ELEMENTS OF TRUST

The word “trust” has many elements. Let us look at the different elements:-

1. It is expressed in prayer:-

a) For deliverance Psalm 31:1c, 2b
b) For leading Psalm 31:3c
c) For guidance Psalm 31:3c

2. It is found in the content of faith in God:-

a) There is trust in “the LORD” (Psalm 31:1).
b) There is trust in God as “the rock of refuge” (Psalm 31:2c).
c) There is also trust in God as a “fortress” (Psalm 31:2d).
d) There is trust in God’s name (Psalm 31:3b [Cf. Psalm 25:11]).
e) There is trust in God’s strength (Psalm 31:4b).

EXPRESSION OF ULTIMATE TRUST

We have one more element to add to the concept of “trust in the Lord”.

“Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.”
Psalm 31:5

1. “Into Your hand I commit my spirit”

a) This is an expression of ultimate trust.
b) These words were quoted by none other than Jesus when He was crucified (Luke 23:46).

2. Trusting God in the most dire of circumstances of life

a) Trusting God as our Redeemer.
b) Trusting God because of faith in “the LORD God of truth”.

He will never let His people down!
