Day 196 – Psalm 26

“Vindicate me, O LORD” Psalm 26:1a

STANDARD SUPERSCRIPTION

Psalm 26 has a simple and standard superscription authenticating the psalm as a product of David. The superscription simply reads “A psalm of David.”

A CRY FOR VINDICATION

A small number of psalms feature this theme of “Vindication”. What are some of the reasons for this cry for vindication? The following reasons may fuel the need to cry out for Divine vindication.

1. When injustice seems to prevail.

2. When wrong seems to overcome right.

3. When man’s justice slumps badly.

4. When life itself is in grave danger.

VINDICATION FROM THE LORD

The psalmist appealed to the Highest Court ever – the Divine Court of God! He made his appeal for vindication in the following manner.

“Vindicate me, O LORD,
For I have walked in my integrity.
I have also trusted in the LORD;
I shall not slip.”
Psalm 26:1

1. “Vindicate me, O LORD”

a) This appeal is for Divine vindication.
b) David would leave it to the Lord to work out how he would be vindicated.

2. Preliminary setting

David made sure that he had fulfilled the basics! A plea for vindication demands that a person be very sure that his life is in order before the Lord!

a) There must be integrity.
b) There must be full trust in the Lord.
c) There must be strength to hold steady and not slip while waiting on the Lord.
