Day 164 – Psalm 22

“But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel” Psalm 22:3

BATTLING DARK THOUGHTS

How would you battle any foreboding thoughts that threaten to overwhelm you? The following text reveals how the psalmist fought off powerful and negative thoughts.

“But You are holy, enthroned in the praises of Israel.
Our fathers trusted in You; They trusted, and You delivered them,
They cried to You, and were delivered;
They trusted in You, and were not ashamed.”
Psalm 22:3-5

1. Remember who God is

a) He is holy.
b) He sits enthroned.
i) He has not lost control.
ii) He is still watching over the affairs of life.

2. Remember the historic faith of the nation

a) Recall how the forefathers exercised trust in God.
b) They went through much hardship too.
c) They trusted and cried out to God in their time of need.
d) Their trust in God was not in vain (“not ashamed”).
e) They trusted and they were delivered from their tribulations.
d) The great deeds of how God delivered were remembered in song (“the praises of Israel”).

RESISTING DARK THOUGHTS SUCCESSFULLY

Dark thoughts can and must be resisted successfully. To give in to sad and painful thoughts caused by doubts would end up with disastrous defeat.

1. Much encouragement to the soul is possible through positive recall.

2. Much strength to fight mental battles is possible through remembering and dwelling on who God is!
