“Let them praise the name of the LORD, for His name alone is exalted…” Psalm 148:13a
EXTENDING THE EXHORTATION TO PRAISE THE LORD
The psalmist began with calling upon the heavens to offer praise to God. He now extends this word of exhortation to God’s creation on the earth.
1. The Call to praise God extended to include the following (Psalm 148:7-13):-
a) The great sea creatures that exist in the depths
b) The weather (fire, hail, snow, clouds, wind)
c) Mountains and hills.
d) Trees
e) Beasts and cattle
f) Creeping things
g) Flying fowl
h) Kings of the earth
i) Princes
j) Judges
k) The young
l) The old
m) The children
2. A special call to Israel (Psalm 148:14)
a) They are called “His people”.
b) He has exalted their horn (reference to “power”).
c) They are the children of Israel.
d) They are His saints.
e) They are a people near to Him.
They have even more reason to offer praise to the Lord their God!
