“Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help…” Psalm 146:5a

EXULTING IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD

The second part of Psalm 146 offers a strong contrast to trust in princes. The greatest trust we can have is to be found in the Lord. The psalmist details some very strong reasons why one should exult in his knowledge of God.

1. Knowing God (Psalm 146:5-10)

a) He is the faithful God of Jacob.
b) He is the LORD God.
c) He is the Almighty Creator.
d) He honours the word of truth He has given to Israel.
e) He executes justice for the oppressed.
f) He feeds the hungry.
g) He gives freedom to prisoners.
h) He opens the eyes of the blind.
i) He raises up those who are bowed down.
j) He loves the righteous.
k) He watches over even strangers.
l) He relieves those who are in need especially.
i) The fatherless
ii) The widow
m) He reigns as King forever.
n) He turns upside down the ways of the wicked.

EVERY REASON TO MAKE PRAISE A PART OF OUR LIFE

Let us be deeply moved to emulate the example of the psalmist. Let us make praise an integral part of our life! The psalmist’s list of reasons is not exhaustive. We can easily add on to this list of reasons why we should make praise a very real and distinctive part of our daily life. May our lips always speak of the goodness of this great God of ours!
