Day 343 – Psalm 138

“Great is the glory of the LORD.” Psalm 138:5b

THE GLORY OF GOD

King David’s knowledge and faith in God included a strong sense of Divine glory. In the following text he sought to highlight this glory of the Lord.

“All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD,
When they hear the words of Your mouth.
Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the LORD,
For great is the glory of the LORD.
Though the LORD is on high, yet He regards the lowly;
But the proud He knows from afar.”
Psalm 138:4-6

1. “All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD”

a) The kings that David knew often magnified themselves.
b) But that was because they had not truly known the greatness of God.
c) If only they could hear the wisdom that is to be found in God’s word.
d) They would join David in offering praise to the Lord for the wisdom of His ways.
e) Such is the greatness of the glory of God!

2. Another aspect of God’s glory appreciated

a) God’s dwelling is in the heavens.
b) He is a great and holy Being.
c) Yet He has a tender regard for the lowly.
d) This was an astonishing aspect of the greatness of God and redounds to His glory.

3. What about the proud?

a) The kings who are proud of their power and are filled with their own glory?
b) The wicked who are wrapped up in self-importance and their own glory?
c) God has little regard for them.
d) “He knows from afar” suggests that God does not acknowledge them in the least.
