Day 308 – Psalm 119:137-144

“My zeal has consumed me…” Psalm 119:139a

HUMBLE ADMISSION

The Word of God may be great and majestic, but our human frailty is all too obvious. The psalmist confesses his human weakness in this segment (Psalm 119:137-144).

1. Puny stature is admitted (Psalm 119:141a).

2. Feeling despised because of smallness of stature is confessed (Psalm 119:141a).

3. Admission of feeling overwrought by enemies.

a) There were strong enemies who have no regard for God’s word (Psalm 119:139b).
b) They create trouble (Psalm 119:143a).
c) They cause anguish (Psalm 119:143a).

DETERMINED TO REMAIN ZEALOUS FOR THE LORD

The psalmist determined that his zeal for the Lord and His word would not fade away.

1. He determined to retain a strong zeal for the Lord (Psalm 119:139a).

2. He further determined that he would love the Lord’s word (Psalm 119:140b).

3. He will endeavor never to forget God’s precepts (Psalm 119:141b).

4. He will never lose his sense of delight in God’s commandments (Psalm 119:143b).

5. He pleads for greater understanding of God’s word (Psalm 119:144b).

6. He determines that he would live according to the enlightenment God gives (Psalm 119:144b).

CHALLENGED TO LIVE BY THE WORD OF GOD

How should we live in this greatly troubled world? The psalmist gives us an inspiring example. Let us be deeply challenged to live by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

1. Let there be a deeper love for God’s word.

2. Let us pray for zeal to live for the Lord.

3. Let us seek God’s mercy to live valiantly in a world fraught with problems.

4. Let us endeavor to live courageously for the Lord.

5. Let us determine that we would be faithful to the Lord because He has been faithful to us.
