THE BLESSINGS OF GOD

Are there “limits” to how the Lord would bless? The answer to this question is answered in the following text.

“May the LORD give you increase more and more,
You and your children.
May you be blessed by the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth.
The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s;
But the earth He has given to the children of men.”
Psalm 115:14-16

This text may be described as a benediction. The recipients are as follows:-

1. All the three groups mentioned in the earlier verses (Psalm 115:9-13).

2. All the children (representing the next generation).

3. May these all be gloriously blessed by the LORD God, the Creator of heaven and earth.

4. When God made the earth, He pronounced a blessing on all who inhabit the earth. That blessing continues to be in force (Genesis 1).

AN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO GOD FOR HIS BLESSING

It is absolutely correct to make an appropriate response to the blessings of God. Psalm 115 concludes with a call to bless the Lord in response.

“The dead do not praise the LORD,
Nor any who go down into silence.
But we will bless the LORD
From this time forth and forevermore.
Praise the LORD!”
Psalm 115:17-18

1. “The dead do not praise the LORD”

a) This is an obvious fact.
b) Another description of those who are dead {“(They) go down into silence”}.

2. “But we will bless the LORD”

a) This is a sharp contrast offered! The living must determine to bless the Lord!
b) From this moment of understanding and trust, the heart must ever seek to praise the Lord.
