Day 210 – Psalm 108

“God has spoken in His holiness…” Psalm 108:7a

GOD SPEAKING TO HIS PEOPLE

The doctrine that God speaks to His people is covered well by the Bible writers. Moses was one of the earliest proponents of this teaching (Deuteronomy 1:6; 4:10, 12). King David certainly was another fervent believer that God speaks to His people.

“God has spoken in His holiness:
‘I will rejoice; I will divide Shechem
And measure out the Valley of Succoth.'”
Psalm 108:7

1. “God has spoken”

a) To Israel.
b) Through His servants the prophets.

2. How does God speak

a) In His holiness
b) With joy

3. Specific reference to the division of the land of Canaan

a) God speaks as One who owns the earth by right of being the Creator.
b) He has sovereign right to distribute the land as He chooses.

4. Shechem

a) This was originally a city of the Canaanites.
b) God gave the land of Shechem to Abraham (Genesis 12:6).

5. The valley of Succoth

a) Succoth was one of the first places mentioned when Israel came out of Egypt
(Exodus 13:20).
b) It was well within the power of God to give it to the children of Israel.
c) “And measure out”

This phrase is often used to describe a person measuring the land with a plumb line. Division of the land is in mind. God was measuring out the valley of Succoth to give out to whom He pleases- in this case, it was to Israel.
