Day 209 – Psalm 108

“That Your beloved may be delivered…” Psalm 108:6a

THE GLORY OF GOD AND DIVINE DELIVERANCE

King David was a grateful recipient of Divine deliverance. Being the king of Israel, he had to lead the army into many battles. He experienced God’s deliverance many, many times.

“That Your beloved may be delivered,
Save with Your right hand, and hear me.”
Psalm 108:6

1. “That Your beloved”

a) This was not a presumptuous statement.
b) David believed that he was truly God’s beloved.
c) That he was beloved was most evident.
d) Psalm 21 describes how God had blessed him.

2. “May be delivered”

a) David once again pleads for deliverance.
b) He pleads with God to deliver him out of his distress.
c) However, he does not take Divine deliverance for granted.
d) He must continue to pray humbly each time he needs special Divine help.

3. “Save with Your right hand”

a) The “right hand” is a symbol of power.
b) David was pleading with God to exercise Divine power to rescue and deliver him.
c) Every act of deliverance would require mighty power from God to be exercised.
d) Only when God delivers would there be true and full salvation (deliverance).

4. “And hear me”

a) David was also concerned that God would not hear his prayer.
b) Deliverance was important, but God hearing and answering his prayer was also important.

Prayer was not a ritual to David. It expressed a deep and living relationship with God, hence this plea that his prayer be answered.
