Day 206 – Psalm 108

“I will praise You, O LORD, among the peoples…” Psalm 108:3a

ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT DECLARATION

David made another significant declaration to sing praises to God in the next text.

“I will praise You, O LORD, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the nations.”
Psalm 108:3

1. “I will praise You”

a) There was the personal context.
i) David would begin his day by singing to the Lord.
ii) It is unlikely that he would have an audience so early in the morning.
b) There was the public context.
i) David declared that he would sing praises to God in public.
ii) He was not ashamed of singing the praise of God publicly.

2. “O LORD”

a) David declared his faith in God.
b) He was his LORD.
c) He will not be ashamed to be identified with the LORD his God.

3. “Among the peoples”

a) The reference here would suggest multiple nationalities.
b) More than Israel is in mind.

4. “Among the nations”

a) The phrase “the nations” explains the earlier phrase “many peoples”.
b) This phrase “the nations” in time came to mean “The Gentiles”.

5. “I will sing praises to You”

David’s focus was not singing to entertain “the nations”. His focus was made very clear. He would sing praises to God. His audience comprising “the nations” would then note his steadfastness of spirit to sing praises to the LORD his God.
