“I will sing and give praise…” Psalm 108:1b

A STEADFAST HEART

The Scriptures do not speak glowingly of the heart of man. Rare are the people who display a steadfastness of heart. Thus it is refreshing to read these lines.

“O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.”
Psalm 108:1

1. How could David speak of his heart being steadfast?

a) He could speak of his heart being steadfast.
b) For steadfastness does not mean sinlessness.

2. Steadfastness of David evidenced:-

a) He never once turned to idolatry.
b) He never turned his back on God.
c) He never lost faith in God.
d) When he sinned:-
i) He repented.
ii) He sought forgiveness.
iii) He sought cleansing.
iv) He sought full restoration of his relationship with God.

3. “I will sing and give praise, even with my glory”

a) Singing and praising of God is understood easily.
b) What did David mean when he wrote that he would praise God with his glory?
i) He was conscious of the fact that man was given glory by God at creation
(Psalm 8:5b).
ii) God’s salvation given is full of glory (Psalm 21:5).
iii) When a person responds to God’s work in his life, he reflects God’s glory.
With his human glory, David determined to sing and give praise to God.
