Day 202 – Psalm 107

“The righteous see it and rejoice…” Psalm 107:42a

A MEDITATION ON THE SOVEREIGN POWER OF GOD V

The psalmist concludes his psalm on a triumphant but thoughtful note. All are called to ponder the wonderful works of God to the children of men.

“The righteous see it and rejoice,
And all iniquity stops its mouth.
Whoever is wise will observe these things,
And they will understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.”
Psalm 107:42-43

1. The righteous

a) The works of God are plain for all to see.
b) They will see and rejoice in the sovereignty of God.

2. The iniquitous

a) They too can see the works of God.
b) However they are not able to rejoice for they suffered under the justice of God.
c) All the wicked can do is to gape in astonished silence.

3. The wise

a) These will do more than just make cursory observations.
b) They will understand the significance of these great acts of God.
c) They will appreciate afresh “the lovingkindness of the LORD”.

APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

What are some things the wise would do in response?

1. They will give thanks to the Lord for they know that He is truly good to the righteous.

2. They will rejoice in the redemption that God has wrought for them.

3. They will exalt the Lord in grateful public worship.

4. They will deepen their understanding and appreciation of the Lord.

5. They will have a renewed trust in the Lord their God.
