Day 199 – Psalm 107

“He turns a wilderness into pools of water…” Psalm 107:35a

A MEDITATION ON THE SOVEREIGN POWER OF GOD II

The psalmist now dwells on what God could do to a supposedly dry and barren ground.

“He turns a wilderness into pools of water,
And dry land into watersprings.
There He makes the hungry dwell,
That they may establish a city for a dwelling place,
And sow fields and plant vineyards,
That they may yield a fruitful harvest.”
Psalm 107:35-37

1. Unsuitable conditions

a) Wilderness
b) Dry land

Nobody would choose lands like that for development!

2. God’s power over the land

a) The wilderness is transformed into pools of water.
b) The dry land now becomes watersprings.

3. God’s power makes all the difference

a) The hungry
God would feed the hungry.
b) The homeless
He would establish a city for a dwelling place for them.
c) The other blessings of God
i) Fields would be sowed.
ii) Vineyards would be planted.
iii) These would yield “a fruitful harvest”.
