Day 198 – Psalm 107

“He turns rivers into a wilderness…” Psalm 107:33a

A MEDITATION ON THE SOVEREIGN POWER OF GOD I

The psalmist now turned his focus on the sovereign power of God (Psalm 107:33-43). He called these expressions of God’s power as His “lovingkindess” shown to the children of men.

“He turns rivers into a wilderness,
And the watersprings into dry ground;
A fruitful land into barrenness,
For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.”
Psalm 107:33-34

1. Good natural conditions

a) Rivers
b) Watersprings
c) A fruitful land

These are conditions that any country would love to have.

2. “The wickedness of those who dwell in it”

a) If wicked people possessed these lands
b) If wickedness was allowed to prevail
c) Then the sovereign power of God can be brought to bear.

3. By sovereign decree

a) God will turn the rivers into a wilderness.
b) The watersprings will dry up and become dry ground.
c) The fruitful land can become barren.

LESSONS LEARNED

What are some lessons that may be learned?

1. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.

2. He is the Sovereign Lord of all the earth and all should fear Him; especially the wicked.
