Day 195 – Psalm 107

“Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble…” Psalm 107:28a

THE FOURTH TIME

The psalmist recorded for the fourth time the desperate cries for help from God.

“Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble,
And He brings them out of their distresses.
He calms the storm, so that its waves are still.”
Psalm 107:28-29

1. “Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble”

a) Crying out to the Lord
i) Out of desperation.
ii) Out of fear.
iii) Their faith must be sincere and genuine if they expected God to hear and answer.
b) In their trouble
i) They would have lost their goods.
ii) They could lose their ship(s).
iii) They were in danger of losing their lives.

2. “And He brings them out of their distresses”

a) “He brings”
i) The present tense would suggest that this is not a one-off situation.
ii) It is likely that God had brought them out of similar stormy situations.
b) “He brings them out of their distresses”
At the least, the lives of the sailors would have been spared!
c) “He calms the storm… its waves are still”
i) The stormy waves recognise the Master.
ii) The elements heed their Master’s voice and were calm!
