Day 187 – Psalm 107

“He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death…” Psalm 107:14a

IMPORTANT DIVINE RESPONSE

How did God respond to the desperate cries of the children of Israel?

“He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
And broke their chains in pieces.
Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness,
And for His wonderful works to the children of men!”
Psalm 107:14-15

1. Were they in darkness?

God brought them out of darkness!

2. Were they in the shadow of death?

God took them out of the shadow of death!

3. Were they in chains?

God broke their chains in pieces!

HOW ABOUT HUMAN RESPONSE?

If God responded so wonderfully to the cries of the desperate children of Israel, how should they respond to Him?

1. “Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness”

a) There should be recognition of God’s hand.
b) There should be great thanksgiving to God.
c) There should be deep appreciation for the goodness of God shown to them.

2. “And for His wonderful works to the children of men”

a) God’s deeds may indeed be called “wonderful works”.
b) What is man that God should be mindful of him? (Psalm 8:4)
c) His works ought to evoke the deepest response from the heart and soul.
i) There should be the giving of thanks to God for hearing and answering prayer.
ii) There should be a sense of awe as well.
iii) The heart ought to learn deep lessons about the importance of walking before the Lord in humble and grateful faith.
