“Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders…” Psalm 106:7a

FULL CONFESSION

Full confession is the correct way to address the problem of sin. Confession of sin is much more than mere acknowledgment of the problem of iniquity.

“Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your wonders;
They did not remember the multitude of Your mercies,
But rebelled by the sea- the Red Sea.”
Psalm 106:7

1. The mighty acts of God in Egypt

a) This is the frame of reference.
b) The mighty plagues of God unleashed against Egypt are reviewed in this text.

2. What do the mighty acts of God in Egypt reflect about the Lord?

a) They displayed His wonders.
b) These sign-miracles reflected the glorious power of God.
c) They also reflected His mercies.
i) The plagues were part of God’s plan to deliver the children of Israel from bondage.
ii) In His mercy the land of Goshen did not suffer as the rest of Egypt did.

3. What should have been Israel’s appropriate response?

a) There should have been deep understanding and appreciation of God.
b) There should have been faith in the Lord.

4. In sobering reality

a) The fathers did not understand God’s wonders.
b) They did not remember the multitude of His mercies shown.
c) They rebelled against God when they came to the Red Sea.
i) They were gripped by fear and complained against Moses.
ii) Rank unbelief filled their hearts; they could not believe God could deliver them (Exodus 14:10-12).
