Day 124 – Psalm 105

“He is the LORD our God…” Psalm 105:7a

A SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP

The psalmist suggested that there was a very special relationship with God that must be treasured. This relationship with God was not something that the children of Israel knew how to appreciate.

“He is the LORD our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.
He remembers His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations.”
Psalm 105:7-8

1. “He is the LORD our God”

a) This was popularly known as The Shema.
b) This was Israel’s normal recitation of their faith in the Lord as their God (Deuteronomy 6:4).

2. “His judgments are in all the earth”

a) God graciously gave wonderful laws to His people.
b) These laws, here called, “judgments” were actually truths that are found in all the earth.
c) All good laws that are employed to govern well are in fact God’s judgments.

3. “He remembers His covenant forever”

a) God graciously gave to Abraham a most gracious covenant.
b) He has never forgotten His covenant with Abraham, His friend (Isaiah 41:8).
c) How gracious God is to favourably remember His covenant to Abraham, even though his descendants had been so unfaithful.

4. “The word which He commanded, for a thousand generations”

a) A thousand generations is another expression for the word “forever”.
b) The phrase “a thousand generations” may be traced to Deuteronomy 7:9.
c) The word in this context is a reference to the covenant that God gave.
d) His word, that is, His promise of a covenant would always be honoured by God.

How the heart should sing and give thanks to God as it remembers His goodness and His graciousness!
