Day 97 – Psalm 102

“But You are the same…” Psalm 102:27a

THE ATTRIBUTES OF GOD

What enabled the despondent psalmist to overcome his dark and despairing spirit? The following text may shed some light.

“But You are the same,
And Your years will have no end.
The children of Your servants will continue,
And their descendants will be established before You.”
Psalm 102:27-28

1. The Unchangeable Nature of God

This thought brought much encouragement to the heart of the psalmist! God will always be the same (Exodus 34:5-7).

2. The Eternal Being of God

God is not only unchanging. He is always our eternal God! Thus His promises will bear the same eternal qualities!

3. Uplifting Application

The psalmist made an extraordinary application of his understanding of the attributes of God. He must have been given much wisdom and insight to be able to make the following applications!

a) “The children of Your servants will continue”
i) There was no need for despair.
ii) God will not forsake His own.
iii) God had promised that He would show mercy for a thousand generations (Exodus 34:7).
iv) There came deep assurance that hard times will not last; God’s mercy will!
b) “And their descendants will be established before You”
i) This is the generation “yet to be created” (Psalm 102:18).
ii) This generation can find faith in the Lord.
iii) This generation will be established before the Lord.

A GLORIOUS HOPE

Thank God that dark times do not have to overwhelm us! How important it is to build a strong foundation for our faith. We can triumph over any trial in life when we have a vital faith-relationship with the Lord!
