MSITN VITAL DOCTRINES – CHRISTOLOGY
“As you also learned from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf, who also declared to us your love in the Spirit.”
Colossians 1:7-8
A FAITHFUL MINISTER OF CHRIST
1. The Apostle Paul honoured Epaphras.
a. This reflects well on the Apostle.
b. He was giving honour to one who deserved honour.
c. He was gracious and kind in the words of praise given to Epaphras.
2. Who was Epaphras?
a. He was the one who had taught the Colossian believers.
b. They had learned from him:
i. About the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
ii. About faith in the Saviour.
c. He was their pastor-teacher.
d. He was also probably the founder of the church.
e. He was called “a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf”.
i. The word “minister” means “a servant”.
ii. He was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. The relationship between the Apostle Paul and Epaphras.
a. The word “dear” means “beloved”.
b. Epaphras was “well-loved”.
i. By the Apostle Paul.
ii. By those who worked with him as “fellow-servants”.
iii. He was very well-regarded by all who knew him and worked with him.
c. Epaphras shared with the Apostle Paul his ministry in Colosse.
i. He had spoken about the love that he had seen among the Church members in Colosse.
ii. He linked this “love” to the Holy Spirit.
iii. He believed that the Spirit of God was producing this fruit of love in their hearts.
