Text: Colossians 1: 1-2

“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Colossians 1:1-2

WARM GREETINGS

1. Warm greetings were sent to the Colossian Church.

2. These came from:

a. Paul

i. He was an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ.

ii. He was made an apostle by the will of God.

b. Timothy

i. He was called “our brother”.

ii. He was well-known to many as a good brother-in-Christ.

3 The Recipients of the Epistle of Paul:

a. The Church in Colosse.

b. Paul graciously addressed them as:

i. Saints (“sanctified ones”)

ii. Brethren

4. Normal wishes in the days of Paul.

a. To wish “grace” from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

i. It means “favour”.

ii. Grace was a major word in Paul’s life.

iii. His wish was that the Colossians may have grace as he had.

b. To wish “peace” as well.

i. Rome ruled a very troubled world.

ii. But Rome ruled with an iron fist.

iii. Many hoped for peace of heart and mind in life.

c. Paul showed great understanding of faith and life.
