“Because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth.”
Colossians 1:5-6
A HEAVENLY HOPE
1. Human hope
a. All of us have experienced human hope.
b. We live in hope.
i. For a better future.
ii. For a better life.
2. Heavenly hope
a. The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
i. It offers hope of a transformed life.
ii. It also offers hope of dwelling with God in heaven.
b. The word of truth.
i. The Gospel is a word of truth.
ii. This word was first proclaimed by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
3. The Gospel
a. This was preached by the Apostles of the Lord Jesus Christ.
b. It was proclaimed by all who had come to faith in the Lord.
c. The same Gospel is proclaimed all over the world.
i. The grace of God makes salvation available.
ii. The word of truth draws people to believe in God.
iii. The Gospel has wonderful power to touch and change lives.
4. The fruit of the Gospel
a. Everywhere the Gospel is preached, there will be some who would believe.
b. In due time, the Gospel would bear fruit in the lives of the believers.
c. This reality was experienced by the Colossians too.
d. They found faith in the Lord Jesus personally.
e. They also found that their hearts were filled with love for others.
