Text: Luke 12: 41-44

PARABLES ARE FOR EVERYONE

1. A parable was a classic teaching tool of the Lord Jesus Christ.

a. He used it to teach the Multitudes.

b. He used it to teach His Disciples too.

2. The question of Peter.

“Then Peter said to Him, ‘Lord, do You speak this parable only to us, or to all people?’”

Luke 12:41

a. Was this parable meant only for the Disciples?

b. Or was it meant for everyone?

c. The reason why Peter raised up this question.

i. The Lord mentioned “servants” (Luke 12:37-38).

ii. Then He mentioned “masters” (Luke 12:39-40).

3. The Reply of the Lord Jesus.

“And the Lord said, ‘Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his master will make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. Truly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all that he has.’”

Luke 12:42-44

a. The faithful and wise steward

i. The term “servants” is a general reference.

ii. “Masters” are also “servants” before God.

iii. The focus is not on an earthly title.

iv. The correct focus is on being “faithful and wise”.

v. The word “steward” describes a servant who manages the household of his master.

b. The structure of the household

i. The house-owner is called “the master” (Luke 12:39).

ii. He has a steward over his household (Luke 12:42).

iii. He is a steward looking after the other servants of the house owner-master (Luke 12:42)

c. The task of the steward

i. He is looking after the other servants.

ii. He makes sure all the servants are well-taken care of.

d. If the steward does his job faithfully and wisely:

i. The master of the house must find his steward faithful.

ii. The faithful and wise servant will be appointed to look after all that the master owns.
