Text: Genesis 17: 19-22
MEDITATION
Genesis 17:19-22
19 Then God said: “No, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his descendants after him.
20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall beget twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.
21 But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year.”
22 Then He finished talking with him, and God went up from Abraham.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. God’s response to Abraham’s suggestion
a. The answer was “No!”
b. Ishmael would not be the heir.
2. Concerning Ishmael
a. God has heard what Abraham had said.
b. The LORD will bless Ishmael too.
i. He will be fruitful.
ii. He will multiply exceedingly because of God’s blessings.
iii. He will become a great nation.
iv. Twelve princes will come from him.
3. Concerning the promised heir
a. He is to be called “Isaac” (which means “laughter”).
b. The everlasting covenant given to Abraham would be established with Isaac.
c. Isaac would be born the following year.
The LORD God then departed after His conversation with Abraham.

19神说:“不然,你妻子撒拉要给你生一个儿子,你要给他起名叫以撒。我要与他坚定所立的约,做他后裔永远的约。
20至于以实玛利,我也应允你,我必赐福给他,使他昌盛,极其繁多。他必生十二个族长,我也要使他成为大国。
21到明年这时节,撒拉必给你生以撒,我要与他坚定所立的约。”22神和亚伯拉罕说完了话,就离开他上升去了。
