Text: Exodus 32: 11-12
MEDITATION
Exodus 32:11-12
11 Then Moses pleaded with the LORD his God, and said: “LORD, why does Your wrath burn hot against Your people whom You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
12 Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, ‘He brought them out to harm them, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your fierce wrath, and relent from this harm to Your people.
MEANINGFUL APPLICATION TO LIFE
1. Moses heard what God considered doing.
2. He was deeply alarmed.
3. He knew what he must do.
a. He must pray.
b. He must intercede.
4. What is “Intercession?”
a. To intercede is “to pray on behalf of someone”.
b. It involves “pleading”.
c. It is not a simple prayer.
i. It requires knowledge of God.
ii. Humble presentation of petition must be made.
5. Intercessory Prayer of Moses
a. Pleading with God.
i. Your people
Pleading the fact that these were God’s people.
ii. God’s power shown
Pleading the fact that God had shown much power already.
iii. These being the case to slay all the people would see all the work put in ending up with nothing.
b. Concerned about God’s great name.
i. The Egyptians would think bad and wrong thoughts about God.
They might think God was evil and that He brought them into the wilderness to slay them.
ii. Moses sought to guard God’s name as one of his goals in intercession.
6. The offer to make a great name for Moses
a. Moses did not take this offer up.
b. He did not think himself as worthier than any of the children of Israel.
