"I have hidden My face from this city"

Text: Jeremiah 33:5

THE OFFER TO HEAR AND ANSWER PRAYER

It was wonderful of God to teach Jeremiah about how he may call upon Him. How precious it is to know that He will also show great and mighty things that He would do. However, it must also be said that there are certain things that God would not do. Prayers for wicked people would not be answered positively!

“For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel,
concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah,
which have been pulled down
to fortify against the siege mounds and the sword:
‘They come to fight with the Chaldeans,
but only to fill their places with the dead bodies of men
whom I will slay in My anger and My fury,
all for whose wickedness I have hidden My face from this city.'”
Jeremiah 33:4-5

1. “For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel,
concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah,
which have been pulled down to fortify against the siege mounds and the sword”

a) The Babylonian assaults:

i) On the houses of the city of Jerusalem.

ii) On the houses of the kings of Judah.

b) What Judah did:

i) They tore down houses.

ii) To build embankments against the Chaldeans.

iii) To fortify their defences against the enemies.

c) The LORD God of Israel had an important word to say to Judah.

2. “They come to fight with the Chaldeans,
but only to fill their places with the dead bodies of men
whom I will slay in My anger and My fury,
all for whose wickedness I have hidden My face from this city”

a) They had come to fight with the Chaldeans.

b) But they would be wrong to assume that they could pray for Divine deliverance
for the city of Jerusalem and that God would respond positively!

c) The men who entered into this war would all be slain!

d) The reason given by God for His judgment against the city and its inhabitants.
Because of “their wickedness!”

e) God had hidden His face from them and would not heed their prayers!
