"If those ordinances depart from before Me"
Text: Jeremiah 31:36
GREAT ASSURANCE FROM GOD I
The LORD had given to Israel a glorious word about a New Covenant that He would give to the nation. He also gave them great assurance that all He had promised would be fulfilled!
“Thus says the LORD,
Who gives the sun for a light by day,
The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night,
Who disturbs the sea,
And its waves roar
(The LORD of hosts is His name):
‘If those ordinances depart
From before Me, says the LORD,
Then the seed of Israel shall also cease
From being a nation before Me forever.'”
Jeremiah 31:35-36
1. “Thus says the LORD”
a) It is the LORD God Himself who had given this solemn promise.
b) He would stand by His word, as sure as His name is “the LORD”.
2. “Who gives the sun for a light by day, the ordinances of the moon
and the stars for a light by night, who disturbs the sea, and its waves roar”
a) He is the LORD who made the sun that gives light by day.
b) He is also the LORD who determined the role of:
i) The moon
ii) The stars
iii) That they would give light in the night.
c) He is the LORD who makes the mighty seas roar.
3. “The LORD of hosts is His name”
a) He is the LORD of hosts.
b) He leads mighty hosts of angels.
c) His awesome name is “The LORD of hosts”.
4. “If those ordinances depart from before Me, says the LORD, then the seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before Me forever”
a) Would those ordinances depart?
b) If so, then the seed of Israel shall cease from being a nation before God.
c) But if these ordinances will not fail, then Israel would be that nation that would be blessed by the LORD.
d) This was strong assurance indeed!
