Isaiah

Day 173

"God will appoint salvation for walls and bulwarks"

Text: Isaiah 26:1

A SONG OF JUDAH

Following the line of thought from the previous chapter, Isaiah envisioned a new song that would be sung by all who live in Judah.

“In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
‘We have a strong city;
God will appoint salvation for walls and bulwarks.
Open the gates,
That the righteous nation which keeps the truth may enter in.'”
Isaiah 26:1-2

1. A new song.

a) Judah under oppression could not sing much.

b) But when God restored the land, a new song would arise.

2. The Contents of the Song.

a) It will focus on the fact that God would make Jerusalem a strong city.

b) God would bring about salvation (deliverance).

c) God would offer His divine protection.

i) Walls and bulwarks are physical things.

ii) They represent the defence of the city.

iii) The past defences had been destroyed by the Babylonians.

iv) The focus of this Song was not the physical wall.

v) The LORD Himself would appoint salvation and protection.

3. The gates of the city.

a) These were part of the defense system.

b) They would remain shut when the enemies are at the gate.

c) But when God is the One who protects the city, the gates would be wide open.

4. Who may enter into the City of Zion?

a) All who make up the righteous nation.

b) Judah would become a righteous country.

c) The people would be the keepers of truth.

d) The LORD would protect them from harm and danger.
