"By faith we understand..."
Text: Hebrews 11:3
COMPREHENSION OF LIFE
Comprehension of life may be obtained in a number of ways. The following are standard ways of comprehending life.
1. Through knowledge passed down from the previous generations.
2. Through formal studies.
3. Through personal experience.
COMPREHENSION OF SPIRITUAL AND ETERNAL MATTERS
The comprehension of spiritual and eternal matters would require faith.
“By faith we understand that the worlds were framed
by the word of God, so that the things which are seen
were not made of things which are visible.”
Hebrews 11:3
1. By faith we understand
a) This is an underpinning principle that must be understood and employed diligently.
b) True and full understanding of spiritual and eternal matters would require faith.
2. The worlds were framed by the word of God
a) Secular science explains that the world came about because of “a big bang”.
b) The believer holds fast to this faith:-
i) The worlds were created by God.
ii) The worlds were framed when God simply spoke them into existence.
iii) He may not be able to fully explain how God did this, but he believes that the Lord can and has created the worlds.
3. The things which are seen were not made of things which are visible
a) Scientists begin with “matter” (“things which are visible”).
b) The believer begins with faith in God.
c) God made the things which are seen out of nothing! (Faith says only God can do this!)
