Text: Genesis 24 : 1 - 67

A SPECIAL GIFT OF APPRECIATION

Eliezer must have been deeply touched by the way in which Rebekah served him! He had lived a long time, and even in his master’s household, he had never come across a person as rare and precious as Rebekah!

“So it was, when the camels had finished drinking,
that the man took a golden nose ring weighing half a shekel,
and two bracelets for her wrists weighing ten shekels of gold,
and said, ‘Whose daughter are you? Tell me, please, is there room
in your father’s house for us to lodge?'”

GENESIS 24:22-23

1. Costly gifts

Eliezer had come prepared! What a faithful and wise servant he was! How blessed Abraham was to have him as his head steward! He had brought good and worthy gifts with him! The nose rings, and the heavy golden bracelets were appropriate gifts for wonderful service rendered!

2. “Whose daughter are you?”

Once again, Eliezer hoped with all his heart that a good and appropriate answer would be forthcoming! How wonderful it would be if Rebekah was from Abraham’s family!

3. “Is there room in your father’s house for us to lodge?”

Eliezer had not traveled alone. There were others with him. The pronoun “us” would indicate that there was a group of people who traveled with old Eliezer! Would Rebekah be taken aback at this request from a total stranger? Once again, Eliezer held his breath as he waited for a reply! So far, everything had been turning out nicely. Would this streak of wonderful blessing continue?

AN ASTONISHING REPLY

Rebekah meekly revealed her identity! You could have bowled Eliezer over with a feather at her reply.

“So she said to him, ‘I am the daughter of Bethuel, Milcah’s son,
whom she bore to Nahor.’ Moreover she said to him, ‘We have
both straw and feed enough, and room to lodge.'”

GENESIS 24:24-25

Eliezer’s wildest hope was being realized right in front of his eyes! So this was Rebekah! She was from Abraham’s family! Yes, they had room to lodge Eliezer and his men. They also had enough straw and feed for the camels! The God that Abraham worshipped was an amazing God indeed! Eliezer must have been profoundly glad that he too had come to possess personal faith in this great and wonderful God!
