Genesis
Day
Day 152

"To You, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, My God of mercy." Psalm 59:17

Text: Genesis 24 : 1 - 67

SPONTANEOUS WORSHIP

Eliezer must have been thoroughly overwhelmed by all that he had experienced that day! His heartfelt prayer was answered to the minutest detail! Was this the God of Abraham? Then his master was blessed indeed to know such a God! How could anyone not worship this great God?

“Then the man bowed down his head and worshipped the Lord.
And he said, ‘Blessed be the Lord God of my master Abraham,
who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master.
As for me, being on the way, the Lord led me to the house of
my master’s brethren.'”

GENESIS 24:26-27

OVERT EXPRESSION OF ADORATION

Eliezer could not help but desire to worship the God of his master Abraham! How could he express that worship except to bow down before this great God! It didn’t matter if he offered worship and bowed himself down to this God in front of everyone! He was not afraid of being stared at! It didn’t matter if others might think him strange! Let them think what they wished! He was certainly not ashamed of this great God! He will, he must offer Him worship on bended knees!

ASCRIBING PRAISE AND HONOUR TO GOD

This God of Abraham stood out to Eliezer in at least three different ways!

1. A Great God of Mercy indeed

If He is indeed a great God, why would He even want to bother with mankind? But this God did! He was merciful. He heard heartfelt prayers! He would take the time to answer them too!

2. A Great God of Truth as well

Abraham must have regaled his servants concerning his experiences with this great God. He had given many promises to Abraham! He had never failed to keep His Word at any time! What a great God of Truth He was!

3. A Great God who would take time to Personally Lead His children

Eliezer thought little of himself. The Lord was referred to as the “God of my master Abraham”. He was but a servant of Abraham, the prophet of God! Though this God did not deign to speak to him directly, nevertheless, through eyes of faith, His hand was obvious!

What are the chances of Eliezer ever finding Rebekah in a large foreign country like Mesopotamia? What are the chances of meeting Rebekah at the well? What are the chances of Rebekah turning out to be beautiful, kind-hearted, hardworking girl? Only if there was a true and great God leading each step of the way could all these things have occurred as they did! Eliezer could not help but bow himself to the ground in worship!
