Day 150

"I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing to You among the nations." Psalm 57:9

Text: Genesis 24 : 1 - 67

WITH BATED BREATH

The faithful old servant of Abraham waited with bated breath the answer that Rebekah would give! Without hesitation, she responded with great warmth and kindness.

“So she said, ‘Drink, my lord.’ Then she quickly let her
pitcher down to her hand, and gave him a drink.”

GENESIS 24:18

The first part of his prayer was answered! This beautiful young lady had a very kind heart! She did not despise old people. Neither did she turn away a stranger. But would Rebekah now offer water for the ten camels to drink?

A GREAT SURPRISE

To the great surprise and delight of Eliezer, Rebekah spoke those special words he wanted to hear.

“And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said,
‘I will draw water for your camels also, until they have
finished drinking.’ Then she quickly emptied her pitcher
into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew
for all his camels.”

GENESIS 24:19-20

1. Gentle and kind

Rebekah did not hurry Eliezer as he quenched his thirst! She waited in her kind and gentle way till he had finished drinking.

2. Intelligent, Observant and Hardworking too!

Eliezer did not tell Rebekah that the camels belonged to him. She must have looked around her, put two and two together and concluded that she would also draw water for the camels to drink! How many liters would she have to draw that day to quench the thirst of 10 thirsty camels?

STUNNED TO SILENCE!

Could this beautiful, kind-hearted, intelligent, and hardworking young lady be the prospective wife of Isaac? Eliezer did not know what to think as he watched Rebekah worked at drawing water from the well for the camels!

“And the man, wondering at her, remained silent
so as to know whether the Lord had made his journey
prosperous or not.”

GENESIS 24:21

Silently, Eliezer watched in rapt silence! Was the Lord answering his heartfelt cry? Was this God of Abraham truly so powerful and gracious that his prayer was answered to the letter and more? How could he be certain? How could he be very sure that the Lord had blessed and prospered his long journey?
