Day 53

A Fierce Struggle

Text: Colossians 2:15

When Jesus ministered on earth, the Gospel writers noted that He had many spiritual encounters:-

1. Jesus was tested by Satan himself (Matthew 4; Luke 4).

2. Those who were possessed appeared as if to challenge His authority.

a) Jesus overcame the demons.
b) They had to obey Him for He was the Son of God (Mark 5:7).

3. The Evil One entered into the heart of Judas causing him to betray the Lord Jesus (John 13:27).

Satan led this attack against Jesus and all that He came to do. He was defeated in every battle. Nevertheless he did not give up. He thought that if he killed Jesus he would then emerge triumphant!

TRIUMPH OVER ALL THE EVIL POWERS

The apostle Paul wrote an important word concerning this powerful struggle between Jesus and Satan.

“Having disarmed principalities and powers, He
made a public spectacle of them,
triumphing over them in it.”
Colossians 2:15

2. Jesus’ moment of Triumph

a) He was not defeated at Death.
b) He disarmed principalities and powers (a reference to Satan and his powerful forces).
c) He triumphed over “the principalities and the powers” (Literally “the rulers and the authorities”).
d) He made a spectacle of them.
i) This is an imagery of a conquering general leading his captives behind him.
ii) Jesus’ death saw the defeat of Satan and all the powers of darkness.

The death of the Lord Jesus Christ should bring to our hearts a great sense of joy that He has defeated our most dreaded enemy- Satan!
