A MINISTRY OF REMINDING

The ministry of the Lord is full and complex. The following are some aspects that may be highlighted:-

1. Revelation from the Lord

a) Paul would always declare and defend that his knowledge was revealed by the Lord (Ephesians 3:3).
b) He gave himself to the study of these revelations before he taught others.

2. Communicating vital knowledge

a) Through preaching
b) Through teaching
c) Through exhorting
d) Through defending

3. Reminding believers

a) Timothy was urged to remind the church.
b) The Apostle Peter wrote of a ministry of reminding (2 Peter 1:13-15).

A NEEDED WORD

The Apostle Paul wrote to encourage Timothy to take heed in his pastoral ministry.

“Remind them of these things, charging them
before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit,
to the ruin of the hearers.”

2 Timothy 2:14

1. “Remind them of these things”

a) This was endorsing the ministry of reminding.
b) These things are a reference to the great truths found in the apostolic teachings.

2. “Charging them before the Lord”

a) There must be great consciousness of the Person and Presence of the Lord.
b) There were people who strove dangerously.
i) Their words were of no profit.
ii) They were putting people in grave danger of being ruined.
c) The ministry of reminding was an important ministry that must not be neglected.
d) Great courage and consistency must be exercised in order to fulfil the ministry of the Lord effectively.
e) Some may have to be spoken to with great imperative firmness.
