"Approved to God..."

Text: 2 Timothy 2:15

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE APPROVED OF GOD

Anybody may think that he is a good servant of the Lord. Many end up being self-deceived! The Apostle Paul wrote to urge Timothy to understand what it would take to be a servant approved of God.

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God,
a worker who does not need to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.”
2 Timothy 2:15

1. The ministry of the Word of God

a) This is the focus of this text.
b) The ministry of the Word of God is of vital significance!

 

2. “Be diligent”

a) Diligence is vital.
b) Behind the idea of “diligence”.
i) Eagerness must be present.
ii) No effort must be spared.
iii) Hard work is a certain mark of a diligent person.
c) An imperative
i) This word to Timothy was not just good advice.
ii) It was stated as an imperative.
d) The person who does not show “due diligence” will not be approved!

 

3. “Present yourself approved to God”

a) The servant of the Lord must be conscious that he presents himself to none other than God!
b) He must recognise that he must have the Lord’s approval.

 

4. How does God approve of a person and his work?

a) The word “approved” will be tested.
b) God will examine its worth.
c) He will test the quality of the work
i) Through time.
ii) Through fire.
d) God’s approval will be seen in the way the work is blessed.
