Day 93 – Psalm 102

“From heaven the LORD viewed the earth…” Psalm 102:19b

GOD’S WATCHFUL CARE OVER THE EARTH

As the psalmist shifted his focus from his personal misery to dwelling on God, he found himself less troubled by his morose feelings. The more he focused on God, the clearer his mind became.

“For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary;
From heaven the LORD viewed the earth,
To hear the groaning of the prisoner,
To release those appointed to death.”
Psalm 102:19-20

1. God’s vantage point

a) He looks down from heaven.
b) Heaven is called “the height of His sanctuary”.
c) He views the earth with deep concern.

2. God’s purpose of looking at the earth

a) To hear the groaning of the prisoner.
b) This complements the idea of God hearing the prayer of the destitute.
i) Justice is in view here.
ii) Not all prisoners are guilty as charged.
iii) The prisoner may appeal to God in prayer.
iv) He will respond appropriately.
c) To release those appointed to death.
i) There could be a miscarriage of justice (from time to time).
ii) God will hear the prayer of the prisoner who may have been a victim of oppressors.
iii) The prisoner may have been sentenced to death.
iv) God could step in and release those appointed to death.
v) He could either use human agencies or He could exercise His right with divine intervention.
