Bible Reading:

6 “Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel,
And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts:
‘I am the First and I am the Last;
Besides Me there is no God.

7 And who can proclaim as I do?
Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me,
Since I appointed the ancient people.
And the things that are coming and shall come,
Let them show these to them.

8 Do not fear, nor be afraid;
Have I not told you from that time, and declared it?
You are My witnesses.
Is there a God besides Me?
Indeed there is no other Rock;
I know not one.’ ”

Isaiah 44:6-8

1. We have a wonderful and glorious God

2. May this new reading bring great joy to our heart

3. Let us establish the following truths in our hearts!

a) God is the Lord

b) He is our King (not just Israel)

c) He is our Redeemer

d) He is the Lord of hosts (a mighty angelic army)

e) He is the First and the Last

f) There is no other God like the LORD!

4. The ancient prayer of Israel was called “The Shema”

a) It was uttered as a prayer

i) By the nation

ii) By the individual

iii) It was uttered daily

b) The Shema

4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!

5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5

i) Israel affirms that they own no other gods

ii) They worship only One God

iii) He is the Lord

c) Appropriate response to God

i) To love the Lord

ii) With all the heart, soul and strength

5. Let us also affirm our faith in God

a) That there is but one God we worship

b) That we will learn to love the Lord with our heart, our soul and our strength
