Bible Reading:

3 “Listen to Me, O house of Jacob,
And all the remnant of the house of Israel,
Who have been upheld by Me from birth,
Who have been carried from the womb:

4 Even to your old age, I am He,
And even to gray hairs I will carry you!
I have made, and I will bear;
Even I will carry, and will deliver you.

Isaiah 46:3-4

1. Repeat Reading of the Scriptures

a) We can do “fresh reading”
i) New text
ii) New thoughts
iii) New lessons
b) We can also do “repeat reading”
i) This is done if the text is rich and deep
ii) If the text is not easily understood
iii) If full understanding is not there yet

2. Theme of Reading today: “Upheld by Me from birth” Isaiah 46:3c

a) God wanted to remind the remnant nation Israel of His role in upholding the nation
b) He was Israel’s faithful Creator God
c) God had been sustaining Israel throughout its existence

HISTORICAL INSIGHT

7 Your country is desolate,
Your cities are burned with fire;
Strangers devour your land in your presence;
And it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.

8 So the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard,
As a hut in a garden of cucumbers,
As a besieged city.

9 Unless the LORD of hosts
Had left to us a very small remnant,
We would have become like Sodom,
We would have been made like Gomorrah.

Isaiah 1:7-9

1. The nation of Israel

a) The country had become desolate
b) The cities had been burned badly
c) Foreign invaders had occupied the nation

2. Compared to a booth and a hut

a) A small booth is made in a vineyard for the workers to rest
b) A small hut is made for workers in a cucumber garden
c) Israel had fallen badly into a state of disrepair

THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS TO BE RAISED

1. Does God still care?

2. Would He still uphold His people?

3. The answer
A Positive YES!

4. We must never yield to negative thoughts that haunt us

5. We must seek to build a stronger faith in God

SOWING SEEDS OF FAITH ON GOOD GROUND

1. Seeds of Faith

a) That God will always care for His people
b) That He will never abandon His people

2. Seeds of Doubt

a) They may be compared to weeds
b) Let’s weed the garden of our hearts

3. Let us thank God for who He is

a) He is a good God
b) His mercy endures forever
1 Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
2 Let Israel now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
3 Let the house of Aaron now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
4 Let those who fear the LORD now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
Psalm 118:1-4

iii.
iii.
