"Hold fast what you have till I come"

Text: Revelation 2:25

THE DEPTHS OF SATAN

The Lord Jesus highlighted an important truth as He deals with the problems of the churches. He identified the fact that many of the problems that threatened them may be traced back to false doctrines. And behind the false teachings was none other than Satan himself.

“Now to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira,
as many as do not have this doctrine,
who have not known the depths of Satan,
as they say, I will put on you no other burden.
But hold fast what you have till I come.”
Revelation 2:24-25

1. The false doctrine of Jezebel.

a) This false prophet taught many to sin against the Lord.

b) But why was she so successful?

c) How did she turn good churches into corrupt ones?

2. The danger that Satan poses.

a) Satan has no regard for churches or servants of God.

b) He would do anything he could to battle and to humiliate them.

c) The word “depths” well-describes the number of plots he has in his arsenal.

3. A short list of things may be noted:

a) He causes tribulation to arise.

b) He causes people to persecute believers.

c) He sends forth false teaching.

d) He sows tares that look like wheat.

e) He resorts to cunning ways to corrupt believers.

f) He uses deception.

g) He uses temptation to immoral activities.

4. “No other burden”

a) The Lord Jesus would add “no other burden” to bear.

b) The church has enough to do to defend itself from the attacks of Satan.

5. One special focus.

a) The Lord desires the Church to hold fast to their faith till He returns.

b) If nothing else, the church would be found to be faithful and loyal to the Lord when He returns.
