Revelation
"I will give power over the nations"
Text: Revelation 2:26
A SPECIAL BLESSING PROMISED
The last word to each church contains a word of encouragement and blessing. Even to the Church of Thyatira was offered a special blessing if it becomes an overcomer.
“And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end,
to him I will give power over the nations—
‘He shall rule them with a rod of iron;
they shall be dashed to pieces like the potter’s vessels’—
as I also have received from My Father;
and I will give him the morning star.
‘He who has an ear,
let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.'”
Revelation 2:26-29
1. “He who overcomes”
a) The believer who repents and returns to the Lord.
b) He will be able to find victory over Satan and all temptations.
c) He will be able to keep the works of the Lord until the very end.
2. A thrilling Messianic Psalm.
a) This special word of promise is best understood in the light of Psalm 2.
b) Psalm 2 was “Messianic”.
i) It was prophetic.
ii) This Psalm describes the reign of the Messiah.
iii) He would rule with a rod of iron.
iv) He would have power and authority over the potter’s vessels.
v) The mighty nations are mere “vessels” that can be easily destroyed.
vi) This authority and power would be given by God to the Messiah.
vii) This prophecy is fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. What was the promise of the Lord to the overcoming believer?
a) The overcomer would have “power over the nations”.
b) This power actually belongs to the Messiah.
i) He will share this power with the overcomer.
ii) He will help the Messiah in His ministry and rule over the nations.
c) The idea behind the word “rule” (Revelation 2:27).
i) It is better understood as “to shepherd”.
ii) The shepherd’s staff is described here as being made of iron.
4. The promise of the Morning Star.
a) This is a reference to the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.
b) He is the eternal Morning Star (Revelation 22:16; 2 Peter 1:19).
c) The great Gift is the Lord Jesus Himself.
5. A message to all the churches.
a) This message was certainly an uplifting one for the church at Thyatira.
b) But it was not restricted to this church.
c) This word from the Spirit of God was applicable to all churches.
