Day 23

"To the angel of the church at Thyatira"

Text: Revelation 2:18

THYATIRA, THE SMALLEST OF THE SEVEN CITIES

Seven cities were named and each city had a Church. The least significant of the cities was Thyatira. It did not enjoy the prominence the other cities had. This city was famous for its trade guilds. Lydia, a seller of purple was from Thyatira. It was mandatory for all tradespeople to belong to a guild. Guilds had as their patrons, the gods and goddesses of Greece and Rome. The Church did not suffer tribulation as much as the other churches noted in the Book of Revelation.

“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write,
‘These things says the Son of God,
who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet like fine brass:
‘I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience;
and as for your works, the last are more than the first.””
Revelation 2:18-19
