"The hidden manna to eat"

Text: Revelation 2:17

NO SUBSTITUTE FOR REPENTANCE

The word “repentance” is not limited to feeling sorry for weaknesses and sins. Repentance involves much more than that. There must be a turning away from sin followed by returning to God.

“Repent, or else I will come to you quickly
and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.
‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat.
And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name
written which no one knows except him who receives it.'”
Revelation 2:16-17

1. Where there is no repentance.

a) There is no forgiveness of sins.

b) Sin thus remains and ruins:

i) The individual.

ii) The church’s testimony.

iii) The church’s ministry.

2. Graver issues are at stake.

a) The Lord Jesus Himself will battle the church that refuses to repent.

b) He will deal with the Church strongly with the sword of Hs mouth.

c) This would be something to be avoided totally.

3. A message from the Holy Spirit to all the churches.

a) The overcomer will be given “hidden manna”.

b) The Lord Jesus had food to eat that the Disciples did not know about.

c) What exactly this hidden manna is, we do not fully know.

d) But it would be special fellowship that the Lord shares lovingly with His humble and faithful overcomers.

4. A special gift of a white stone.

a) It is essentially a gift from the Lord Jesus Himself.

b) It may not have any great monetary significance as far as the world is concerned.

c) But it would be a gift from the Lord and that in itself is priceless.

d) That stone would be a personalised gift.

i) It would be a special gift with the name of the recipient on it.

ii) It would be a unique gift from the Lord for being an overcomer.

iii) Its value is derived from the fact that it is a special gift from the Lord to a faithful overcomer.
