THE MAN WHO FEARS THE LORD

THE FEAR OF THE LORD

This was a deep truth that was well-taught in the Scriptures. From Deuteronomy to the Prophetic books, the Fear of the Lord was constantly emphasised. The Psalmist highlights some blessings of God associated closely with the practice of the fear of the Lord.

12 Who is the man that fears the LORD?

Him shall He teach in the way He chooses.

13 He himself shall dwell in prosperity,

And his descendants shall inherit the earth.

14 The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him,

And He will show them His covenant.

15 My eyes are ever toward the LORD,

For He shall pluck my feet out of the net.     Psalm 25:12-15

  1. Who is the man that fears the Lord?

a) This was written to provoke thought and discussion

b) There would be some who do practise the fear of God

c) There would be others who do not practise the fear of the Lord

  1. The person who does practise the fear of the Lord genuinely

a) The Lord would be his Teacher

     The Lord would teach him in the way He Himself chooses

b) He and his family would be blessed

     His descendants would inherit the earth

c) The secret of the Lord 

     The Lord would reveal His secret to the one who fears Him

d) The Covenant of God

     This Covenant has great potential blessings. The blessings would be bestowed on the one who truly fears God

AN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

  1. Faith in God must be stirred up
  1. Eyes of faith are fixed on the Lord
  1. The Lord would send appropriate help in times of need
